"Throw me in the Trash" is a series inspired by a moment of reflection. While working with paper prototypes to explore the limits of traditional canvases, I crumpled one and tossed it aside, only to see it miss the bin and fall to the floor. This small act sparked a big realization.
As I looked at the crumpled paper, I began to think about my own work. Would it, too, end up discarded one day?
Growing up in a Jehovah's Witness household focused on the End of Days, I often heard the phrase "Throw me in the trash." It was a reminder that the body is just a shell for the soul, and when we die, our bodies are seen as nothing more than objects.
This upbringing shaped my thoughts about time, identity, and what it means to leave a mark on the world. Through this series, I explore how we often chase lasting legacies while forgetting to appreciate the present moment. I've learned that creating art for the sake of ego doesn’t inspire me anymore. Instead, I find freedom in making art that goes beyond my own lifetime.
"Throw me in the Trash" looks at the connection between art, time, and self-expression. It encourages viewers to think about what we value and how our beliefs shape our understanding of time and identity. This series celebrates the power of art to live on beyond its creator, reminding us that meaning can change and grow over time.
